Flemish slaughterhouses
During the slaughtering, cutting up and processing, very strict quality standards
are guaranteed, to be able to deliver a most hygienic product at the points of sale.
There is permanent supervision and inspections carried out by the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC).
Each rabbit and / or packaging of rabbit or rabbit parts must carry an approval
number of the slaughterhouse. The FASFC assigns each slaughterhouse a number, depending
on the authorised activities, which are:
- numbers starting with KL: for a slaughterhouse approved for export, with as main
0activity rabbits, and under permanent supervision of the FASFC;
- numbers starting with an E: for a slaughterhouse approved for export, with as
0secondary activity rabbits, and under permanent supervision of the FASFC.;
- numbers starting with a L or without a prefix letter: slaughterhouse with limited
0capacity, approved for the local market only, not allowed to export. Therefore
there is no permanent supervision by the FASFC.
